The man accused of stabbing the actor Gašper Tič to death last June will appear before the Ljubljana District Court for a pre-trial hearing on Wednesday, notes the STA in a report dated January 17, 2018. The prosecution has charged Stefan Cakić with manslaughter in a state of severely diminished capacity.
Cakić, who was an acquaintance of Tič's, is suspected of killing the 44-year-old actor in Tič's flat in Ljubljana on 17 June by stabbing him several times.
The accused was arrested the following day and has been in custody ever since.
In August, the prosecution filed the first indictment, which was successfully appealed by Cakić's lawyer.
Unofficially, the defence challenged the indictment because the suspect was not examined by a psychiatrist during the investigation.
Following an opinion given by a psychiatrist, the prosecution filed a new indictment in December, charging Cakić with manslaughter in a state of severely diminished capacity.
While manslaughter carries a prison sentence of five to 15 years, a court can hand down a milder sentence if it was committed in a state of diminished capacity.
Tič was a member of the Ljubljana MGL theatre ensemble. He also headed the Slovenian Association of Drama Artists, wrote and directed plays, and did extensive work for television.
