Here’s another documentary that interviews foreigners about their experiences of life in Slovenia, and in particular about Slovenes. This one was produced by RTV Slovenia, the national broadcaster, and completed in 2010. It was directed by Haidy Kancler, who writes the following about it:
Forget all the well-known Slovenian national stereotypes! The documentary film "The Slovenian Way" reveals a completely new dimension of the nation's identity. Kirsten, language editor from Scotland, is still unable to get used to starting work so early even though she's been in Slovenia for five years. Lior from Israel is impressed by how polite people are. Michael from New York is noticing the popularity of Croatian music. On the road, Janis from Berlin prefers to avoid drivers from Celje. Mama from Cameroon never orders Laško beer when in Ljubljana. The film opens a view on how people perceive different cultures. It is a funny mirror to all the Slovenian people.
You can see more of Haidy’s work on her website or YouTube channel, but for now just relax and enjoy the following documentary, which might include a few familiar faces.
