Deckument is a documentary about Slovenia in the late 1980s and 90s, a fascinating look at a generation or two ago and the then emerging youth culture of skateboarding and its intersection with video, music and fashion.
Even if you have no interest in the activity it’s a look back at a world that’s long gone – before the break-up of Yugoslavia and when childhoods were still spent outdoors and skate parks were jerry-rigged assemblages that’d give today’s parents a heart attack. It also has plenty of shots of the urban environment, including what's said to be the best known place in the country for skaters - Republika trg, in front of the Parliament building. Best of all, for those readers of TSN who’re always on the look-out for interesting and varied language learning material, it’s in Slovene with good English subtitles.
