This time we read about artificial intelligence, a very succesful project, which is entirely Slovenian and developed with the aid of European funding. In his article, Mark Minevich from the Forbes Councils stresses the importance of the success of the company Event Registry, which is a system for real-time collection, annotation and analysis of content published by global news outlets. What they do is monitor world events in real time, search for news articles and events, learn about individual events, create personalised topic feeds, explore news bias, analyse information diffusion and plagiarism, track trends and see overview of scheduled events.
TEvent Registry collect and process articles from more than 100 000 news sources globally in 10+ languages. For any article, they can find related ones in other languages. By analysing large numbers of news articles, they can identify events (any significant happening in the world that is reported on by a number of news outlets) mentioned in them. For each event, they extract from the news articles information about what happened, where, when, who was involved, etc. Event Registry also provides methods for automatic identification of related events.
The goal of creating AI vision systems was achieved by the colaboration of seven European Institutes and Jožef Štefan Institute from Slovenia, which employs 1000 people and plays the main role for the Artificial Intelligence projects in Slovenia.
