STA, 1 October 2018 - After several consecutive loss-making years, media outlets in Slovenia broke even last year by generating a cumulative net profit of EUR 4m on EUR 447m in sales revenue, shows a fresh analysis of official data.

A review compiled by the magazine Marketing Magazin based on data for 103 media outlets from the AJPES agency for public legal records, the cumulative sales revenue rose by 5% from 2016.

For the third year running, the highest growth was recorded by Salomon, the publisher of the namesake classifieds magazine, sports newspaper Ekipa SN, radio stations Aktual, Salomon and Veseljak and the magazine Reporter. The company saw its sales revenue rise by EUR 10m or 23% to EUR 54m.

Pro Plus, the company operating TV channels POP TV and Kanal A, increased net sales revenue by 15% to EUR 60.5m and the publisher of newspaper Večer by 24% to EUR 10.5m.

On the down side, print media publishers mostly saw their revenue fall, in particular the magazine publisher Videotop, whose revenue fell by EUR 4.5m.

The publishers Mladinska Knjiga Založba, Dnevnik and Delo recorded by about EUR 700,000 lower sales revenue.

Pro Plus posted the biggest net profit at EUR 5m, bouncing back from a loss the year before, followed by the street advertising provider Europlakat at EUR 1.6m, and newspaper publisher Delo at EUR 1.3m.

The biggest loss makers were TV programmes providers topped by Planet TV, which, however, managed to more than halve its loss to EUR 6m.

Also ending in the red were Čarli TV (-EUR 1m), news portal Siol.net (-EUR 768,000), MTV Adria, Šport TV, TV3 and NovaTV24.
