STA, February 7, 2018 - Slovenian cryptocurrency startup Viberate hosted Prime Minister Miro Cerar and other government officials on Wednesday to help them understand more about blockchain technology as they draw up the legislative framework.
Cerar described blockchain as an exceptional opportunity for Slovenia, which also entailed many risks. He said that much needed to be done to regulate these technologies and to have entrepreneurs and users learn about the risks.
He was hopeful that entrepreneurs would develop the technology "in good faith so it serves people and our positive interests... It is up to the government services and others to prepare the legal frameworks in cooperation with them and make Slovenia recognisable in a positive way."
Meeting with Slovenian Prime Minister and pretty much half of the government was a success! With the incredible crowd of outstanding Slovenian blockchain companies gathered at the event we decided to build Blockchain Alliance CEE. Can't wait to tell you more about it. pic.twitter.com/naayrzqmTF

Viberate general manager and co-funder Matej Gregorčič said the idea of the meeting was to make the government familiar with the blockchain technology and to show what Slovenian companies were doing and what obstacles they faced.
"We told the government that we want to help them, that we are available for operative meetings any time so they can better understand the technology and draw up the legal and tax frameworks and everything necessary for business in Slovenia to function better."
The initiative for cooperation was undertaken at the World Economic Forum in Davos when State Secretary Tadej Slapnik and Viberate executive director and co-funder Vasja Veber rook part in a panel debate sponsored by Consensys.
Veber noted the advantage of doing business in a small country, saying that in no other country that Slovenia models itself on could a meeting with the prime minister be arranged in such a short time.
The event also presented the Viberate-initiated interest association called Blockchain Alliance CEE, which will seek to ease the entering of new markets and Slovenia's promotion as a blockchain destination.
The invitation to join the association will initially be sent out to Slovenian companies and then extended to others.
