June 23, 2018
While the work of Ljubljana Pride goes on all year, the most visible part of the group’s work, the Festival, will peak today, Saturday June 23, with the annual march through town that starts in Metelkova at 17:00 and ends up in Novi trg at 19:00 for an evening of speakers and music, before heading to Klubs Tiffany and Monokol for the after party.
While always celebration of solidarity, and this year in particular of intersectionality among the LGBTQI+ community and other marginalised groups, Simona Muršec, the head of the Pride organisation, is quick to note that this is as much as protest as a party, given the levels of homophobia that still exist within Slovenia, as seen in a recent attack on two men dancing together in a Ljubljana bar.
In contrast, all are welcome at the events, which will be taking place on what looks like a beautiful, sunny day in the capital.
Ljubljana Pride’s official website is here, and note that the group is an international one, comfortable operating in English.
