The third edition of the INDIGO, Festival of Contemporary Ideas has the theme of rumours, which will play out over three days of exhibitions, concerts, performances, lectures and debates with artists and theorists from Slovenia and abroad. Events are planned in various cultural and academic institutions, as well as in the streets, with the focus of the latter being French Revolution Square (Trg francoske revolucije, FRS), one of the city’s cultural quarters.
The programme, which can be found here, includes “smart” t-shirt workshops with RogLab in FRS (5th, 6th and 7th), an art book fair in the ZRC SAZU Atrium, Novi trg (6th and 7th), and hair cutting in the street, taking place in FRS on all three days, and being promoted as “hair editing by Robert” – so perhaps asks some questions before sitting in the chair.
There are also lectures and talks in Slovene and English, with the latter including a presentation by Experimental Jetset, the Amsterdam-based design collective, on more 20 years of pillaging the remains of modernism, post-punk and pop culture (Wednesday); a talk by James Langdon on the life and work of Norman Potter (Friday), the British Christian anarchist and designer; and interview with the writer Angela Nagle on 4Chan, the alt-right and Trump (Thursday); and the philosophers Mladen Dolar and Henrik Jøker Bjerre discussing the fatal powers of rumours (Friday).
With regard to music, the big show is Laibach in Križanke, Friday night, including an afterparty in FRS. Before this, on Wednesday night there’s music from DJ Božo & DJ Sladki Greh in FRS, 22:00, while on Thursday, same place and hour, DJ Marsh will provide the sounds. On Wednesday you can also enjoy a live performance by Mr. Lee and Ivanesky, on Wednesday and at 20:00 in FRS.
The full programme with all the details, including some events not reported above, can be found on the festival’s colourful and informative website.
