Four days of film will be coming to the coast this week, with the 9th edition of the Festival of European & Mediterranean Film. This sees a varied selection of films, long and short, fiction and documentary, all shown in their original languages and with Slovene subtitles.
A total of 23 films will be shown, and while these are drawn from all over Europe the focus of this year is France, and although – as noted above – there will be no English subtitles, here we’ll highlight Visages, Villages, from that country’s legendary Agnes Varda.
With regard to English language movies, these include three music documentaries: Julien Temple’s look at the Sex Pistols, The Filth and the Fury, a feature on Mick Ronson, Bowie’s guitarist in the early 70s, called Beside Bowie, and Maria by Callas, which examines the great opera singer. English language features include Finding Your Feet, Race and the Jailbird and Beast. Trailers for these and all other movies can be found here.
A PDF of the programme is here, while a simple schedule is available as a jpg file here. The screenings will take place at two venues in the charming seaside town of Piran: Gledališče Tartini Piran, at Kidričevo nabrežje 6, and Mediadom Pyrhani, at Kumarjeva 3.
