STA, February 26, 2018 – The 12th Festival of Mountaineering Film, featuring a total of 35 films on Alpine climbing and mountaineering culture, will open on Monday evening in Ljubljana's Cankarjev dom with a screening of the South Korean award-winning feature film Becoming Who I Was.

Almost a third of this year's programme, which will also be screened in Domžale, Celje and Mojstrana, are feature films, the biggest number so far.

The opening film is a story about a Buddhist boy from the highlands of northern India who discovers that he is the reincarnation of a centuries-old Tibetan monk. His godfather takes him on a journey to discover his past.

The 2017 film by Moon Chang-Yong and Jeon Jin has won awards at the Berlin International Film Festival, the Moscow International Documentary Film Festival and the Seattle International Film Festival.

Other films of note are Dirtbag: The Legend of Fred Beckey by Dave O'Leske, a story of the legendary American mountaineer Fred Beckey, and Psycho Vertical by Jen Randall, depicting a gruelling 18-day solo climb of the El Capitan in Yosemite Park.
