STA, 17 June 2022 - A 49-year-old German woman was killed in a paragliding accident in the Kobarid area in the west of the country on Thursday, the police have said.

Bovec police have ascertained that the 49-year-old had been a member of a group of eight German paragliders who took off from Kobala in the Tolmin area just before 1pm on Thursday.

She was found lying motionless by mountain rescuers in an overgrown and hard to access terrain on the northern slope of Stol, a 1,673 metre-high mountain. A doctor pronounced her dead and ordered a post mortem.

Considering the facts and circumstances, the police have ruled out foul play, finding the paraglider fell and died of her injuries, according to a press release from the Nova Gorica Police Department.

The police have notified the investigating judge and prosecution service in charge of the accident as well as an air accident investigator. They will also submit a report on their findings to the district prosecution office in Nova Gorica.
