In June, 246 persons applied for asylum in Slovenia, which is roughly a third less than in May and comparable to April.
In the first half of the year, asylum was granted to 49 refugees and 596 are currently accommodated in Slovenia.
The police registered 3,427 illegal border crossings in the first six months, while the figure for the whole of 2017 was 754.
The number of illegal border crossings peaked in April at 1,158, while it fell to 885 in June.
Pakistani, Algerian and Syrian citizens stand out this year, with their numbers also rising the most compared to 2017.
The border police also reported a rise in the number of foreigners "returned to foreign authorities on the basis of international agreements". Their number rose to 1,061 by 6 July, which compares to 446 in the same period last year.
Almost all of them were returned on the border with Croatia, which the Slovenian police also attributes to closer cooperation with Croatian authorities.
