Libyans Found Hiding in Freight Train
The STA reports that Slovenian border police officers checking on a freight train entering the country from Croatia at the Dobova crossing on Sunday discovered two Libyan migrants hidden in the framework supporting one of the cars.
According to a report from the Novo Mesto Police Department, the train, carrying grain and the two stowaways, was headed for Italy. The pair were handed back to the Croatian police.
Between 3 and 6 August, police patrolling the Slovenian-Croatian border in the region of Bela Krajina and Posavje also apprehended 33 illegal migrants, including 21 Pakistanis. Ten were from Afghanistan and two from India.
Eight Trafficked Afghans Hurt in Road Accident
In a separate incident, the STA reports that eight Afghan citizens being transported illegally in a van by a Croatian man were hurt on Monday night as the driver lost control of the vehicle in a sharp turn between Podgorje and Kastelec near the Slovenian coast.
The van ended up on its roof in the accident and while the 24-year-old Croatian sustained minor injuries, the Afghans - a man and woman and six children - were taken to the Izola hospital, the Koper police said.
The Afghans had entered Slovenia illegally before the accident. The Croatian man has been detained.
