Minor traffic and other disturbances were caused today by 10 to 25 cm of lowland snow which covered most of the country overnight.
The Traffic Information Centre issued a reminder for people to adjust their driving to the road conditions and to expect travel times longer than usual. While the main roads have been cleared of snow, drivers should still not get on the road without the mandatory winter equipment.
On Slovenian roads all vehicles must be adapted to winter conditions between November 15 and March 15. Mandatory winter equipment includes four snow tires with at least 3 mm deep grooves (4 mm in Croatia and Austria) on the whole surface, or summer tires with snow chains in the trunk or on the driving wheels in case of snow on the road.
Furthermore, the Administration of Civil Protection and Disaster relief reported a number of about trees being toppled by the snowfall, along with some small avalanches, mostly in the Central Sava Valley, with these disrupting railway traffic in the area for several hours. Wet heavy snow also damaged some power lines, which are being repaired as we type.
