Winter Olympics
"Americans have fallen, the Lynx going after Russians": The Slovenian men's national ice hockey team have proven that not even the greatest ones are great enough when you play as a team, defeating the favoured US 3:2 in the opening game of the Olympic tournament in PyeongChang. (front page, 25)

Public sector strike
"If necessary, they will repeat the drill in March": Employees in education staged a strike yesterday, and some 20,000 people protested in Ljubljana's Congress Square, giving the government three weeks to reach an agreement on higher wages. (front page, 3)

New UKC Ljubljana boss
"Aleš Šabeder wants to increase UKC Ljubljana revenue": Aleš Šabeder was named yesterday for a full four-year term as the head of UKC Ljubljana. He is facing a lot of challenges at the helm of the country's main hospital, which needs a financial injection. (front page, 2)

"Protest rally of teachers on strike": Around half of some 40,000 Slovenian teachers on strike gathered yesterday in Ljubljana's Congress Square to tell the government that they are underpaid. (front page, 4, 18)

Pre-election time
"Feverish writing of bills has obviously exhausted MPs": The pre-election fever is not ending, as the MPs of the ruling Modern Centre Party (SMC) alone filed five bills in parliament in the last week, including two by National Assembly Speaker Milan Brglez. (front page, 2)
