Speaking with Serbia’s Beta news agency, and as reported on, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, due in Ljubljana Wednesday, spoke out against the expansion of NATO in the Balkans, with the claim that the organization was focused on “fake threats”. He went on to say that EU demands for Balkan states to choose between the West and Russia would be counterproductive, and thus such moves were “a wicked practice”.

Earlier this month the EU announced details of a strategy to guide Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia toward EU accession, with the last two nations set to join the Union by 2025, followed by the other four.
