STA, 30 March, 2018 - Four Serbian citizens who brought eight illegal immigrants across the Croatian-Slovenian border at the end of last year have been sentenced to a total of 34 months in prison, the Koper-based newspaper Primorske Novice reported on Friday.
The four Serbs, aged between 19 and 44, were stopped by the police in Podgrad in south-western Slovenia and arrested, with the prosecution charging them with crossing the national border illegally.
The organisers charged the eight illegal immigrants from Pakistan between EUR 3,000 and EUR 4,000 each to be brought from Serbia to Italy.
Two of the defendants transported the Pakistanis, and two travelled in a car in front of them to warn them about possible danger of police patrols.
All four have pleaded guilty and have also been fined EUR 1,280 in total.
