STA, 30 March 2018 - Eleven suspects, six in Slovenia and five in Italy, have been arrested as part of a sting targeting a drug trafficking ring that operated in coastal Primorska and in neighbouring Italy, Koper police said on Friday.
The drugs were supplied wholesale by a 39-year-old from Kranjska Gora, who sold them in smaller quantities to dealers on the coast.
Along with five other suspects, he was arrested on Monday as apex of a criminal investigation that started in April 2016. The five Italian suspects were apprehended before.
The police confiscated almost half a kilo of heroin, about a kilo of cocaine, some marijuana, a handgun and a large quantity of cash.
But this was merely a drop in the bucket, as the investigation has shown that a single Italian customer had bought over a kilo of heroin from the group just between May and August 2017, said Dean Jurič, the head of the Koper police precinct.
The Slovenian suspects face between one and 15 years in prison on a total of 42 charges of drug possession and trafficking.
