STA, 16 October 2018 - Slovenia and Croatia have submitted a joint application for EU Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) for extra virgin olive oil from Istria under the name Istria oil. The bid will however not affect the already protected extra virgin olive oil from Slovenian Istria, which has had EU PDO status since 2007.

STA, 16 October 2018 - Joining World Food Day calls to eradicate hunger globally, Agriculture Minister Aleksandra Pivec has highlighted the need for a change of practices in food production and environmental protection. Changes, albeit slow, are also under way in Slovenia, which produced 53% of the food available in the country in 2016.
STA, 16 October 2018 - The average Slovenian family spends EUR 1,500 on heating per year, according to a survey commissioned by Borzen, the power market operator. Central heating is still the most popular heating system in the country.
STA, 15 October 2018 - Ivo Boscarol, the co-owner and director of the Ajdovščina-based ultra-light aircraft maker Pipistrel, announced the past weekend that he would move a part of production to Italy's Gorizia. His statement comes amid a row with the government over plans for a capital gains tax.

STA, 15 October 2018 - A Slovenian architect who moved to Argentina in 1924 has left an important mark on the city that currently hosts the Summer Youth Olympic Games. Viktor Sulčič is one of the designers of the La Bombonera football stadium in Buenos Aires and he also came up with the nickname for the home of the popular Boca Juniors club.
