STA, 11 June 2018 - This year's Pride Parade Festival in Slovenia will take place between 15 and 23 June, concluding with a procession in Ljubljana. According to the organisers, the common thread of the numerous events of the festival, which is expected to be one of the richest so far, is intersectionality.

STA, 11 June 2018 - The Slovenian police have expressed disagreement with a major anti-migration military and police exercise planned by Austria on the Slovenian border on 25 June, Slovenian Statehood Day. Interior Minister Vesna Györkös Žnidar spoke of "Austria's internal political issues that should not be spilling over to Slovenia".

STA, 11 June 2018 - Slovenian voters cast 2,473 valid general election ballots at diplomatic and consular offices abroad. The largest number of votes, 720, went to the election winner, the Democrats (SDS), while another right-leaning party, New Slovenia (NSi), came second with 438 votes, the National Electoral Commission said on Monday. 

STA, 11 June 2018 - Companies operating in Slovenia last year paid out a total of EUR 734m in dividends, which is 8.3% more than in 2016. More than half (53%) of the sum was paid out by financial companies, while the general government sector was the biggest receiver, the Statistics Office said on Monday. 

Saglara Mandzhieva came to Slovenia from Russia with her family, and now runs a business selling health and beauty products from a store in the same block as the main library in Ljubljana. I visited her the other day and asked about her life and work here. 

Perhaps the best, and certainly most foul-mouthed, commentator on the Slovene political scene in English goes by the name Pengovsky, who published his analysis of the election results just before the weekend.

STA, 10 June 2018 - Slovenia's men's handball team has lost its first qualifier for the World Handball Championship, which will be held next year. Slovenia was beaten on home ground last evening by Hungary, who won 29:24 (13:14).
