STA, 14 May 2018 - The list of media owner Bojan Požar is among the many political newcomers hoping to boost their election chances with a dose of populism. Unabashed by criticism over his coupling of journalism and politics, Požar is proposing heavy tax cuts while announcing a war on white collar crime and the current judiciary.

STA, 11 May 2018 - The opposition Democrats (SDS) appear to have affirmed their leading position in the polls with three weeks to go until the general election. The latest poll by Mediana gives them a full five-point lead on the non-parliamentary Marjan Šarec List, with the coalition Social Democrats a distant third.
STA, 9 May 2018 - Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković, the head of Positive Slovenia (PS), and head of the Pensioners' Party (DeSUS) Karl Erjavec have signed an agreement establishing a "left bloc". The main point of the agreement is the commitment that the parties in the bloc will not form a coalition with the centre-right Democrats (SDS).

Going over the candidate lists, a district commission has found a dead person on one of the lists, while several have been rejected for failing to meet the 35% gender quota.

STA, 9 May 2018 - The head of the biggest faction in the European Parliament, the European People's Party (EPP), is coming to Slovenia on Friday to express support for the three Slovenian members of the group ahead of the June general election. Manfred Weber told the STA he had been invited to Slovenia by the Democrats (SDS).
STA, 8 May 2018 - The first major televised debate of the election campaign on Monday evening showed an overwhelmingly tough stance on migrations among parties that dominate the polls. Most think Slovenia should beef up border security, some called for an EU-wide approach, and a few suggested a more nuanced focus on tackling migrations at the source.
STA, 6 May 2018 - The United Right (Združena desnica), a coalition of the Voice for Children and Families, which campaigned against gay adoptions in a 2015 referendum, and Franc Kangler of the New People's Party (NLS), is possibly out of the election race. Its candidacy in a major electoral unit has been rejected over gender quota, but the party has lodged an appeal.
STA, 4 May 2018 - Increasing social benefits is not a solution to poverty, what needs to be done is create new jobs and secure decent pay. This view was shared by representatives of political parties who took part in a panel discussion on poverty, which was organised in Ljubljana on Friday as part of the European Minimum Income Network project.
