Pahor will be accompanied on his trip to the US, which will also include a stop in Washington, by Foreign Minister Miro Cerar, while Health Minister Samo Fakin is also expected in New York.
The theme for the general debate this year is "Making the United Nations relevant to all people: global leadership and shared responsibilities for peaceful, equitable and sustainable societies".
Slovenia, which is currently chairing the UN Human Rights Council, is expected to put emphasis on its usual key topics, including human rights and the strengthening of international law.
Slovenia is in favour of UN reform, it is highlighting the importance of preventive diplomacy, it is doing well in the implementation of Agenda 2030, while another priority is human security.
Pahor is expected to hold several bilateral meetings, including with counterparts from Ghana, Turkey, Switzerland, Kosovo and Iceland, as well with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
Pahor will address the General Assembly on Tuesday. Earlier the same day the floor will be taken by Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.
Cerar, whose schedule includes a meeting of EU foreign ministers and a transatlantic meeting of foreign misters hosted by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, is also to hold several bilateral meetings.
Moreover planned for Cerar is a meeting of ministers from the Central European Initiative, of the informal ministerial network for the International Criminal Court (ICC), a high-level meeting on Syria and a meeting of the Group of Friends of Mediation.
On Thursday, Pahor and Cerar will travel to Washington. The president will address the National Press Club in the capital, while the pair will latera attend a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the Slovenia-run demining fund ITF Enhancing Human Security and visit the Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Fakin will travel to New York on Tuesday, mostly for two high-level side events focusing on the fight against tuberculosis and noncommunicable disease.
In cooperation with the World Health Organisation and a few other countries Slovenia will host on Friday an event on alcohol, noncommunicable disease and sustainable development.
The country will moreover help organise on Tuesday an even examining the persecution of sexual violence by the ICC, as well as an event on innovation as a means for meeting sustainable development goals.
Also in New York this week as the president of the Global High-Level Panel on Water & Peace and a member of the Club of Madrid will be former Slovenian President Danilo Türk.
