STA, 2 June 2018 - The Slovenian national football team ended their losing streak under the new head coach as they defeated Montenegro 2:0 in a friendly in Podgorica on Saturday, in what was a match between two depleted teams, with Slovenia missing many of their A-list players.

After the losses to Austria and Belarus in March, Slovenia can be satisfied with their first win under Tomaž Kavčič, and perhaps even with the discipline on defence, but their attack was not actually very good despite the two goals.

The first goal was more a product of a mistake in the home team's ranks, as a Montenegrin defender carelessly kicked Slovenia's Miha Zajc inside the box to give the guests a penalty kick in the 39th minute, which was converted by Roman Bezjak.

The second goal in the match played in front of some 2,000 spectators came in the 79th minute as a product of practically the only good offensive play by Slovenia in the match, a counter-attack executed by Zajc, with Domen Črnigoj serving as the assist man.

It was the second official match between the two former Yugoslav republics, the first one, which was also a friendly played in the Montenegrin capital in 2012, ending in a 1:1 draw.
