Slovenia managed a stunning 31:26 win against Spain in the main round of the Men's EHF European Handball Championship, played last night in Varazdin, Croatia.

Slovenia were just one goal to the better at halftime, with the score at 13:12, but the players pulled far ahead in the second half, being seven goals in the lead at one point. While 11 different Slovenes managed to get the ball in the back of the net, Gasper Marguc led the field, with five.

While the result delighted fans travelling to the game from nearby Slovenia, as well as in homes and bars across the country, it was a shock for Spain, whose teams have won the silver medal four times at the championship, most recently in 2017.

However, Slovenia will still leave the tournament if they lose their next game against the Czech Republic, held this afternoon at 16:00.
