The STA reports January 28, 2018, that Anže Semenič won the ski jumping World Cup event on the large hill on Sunday, in what is the first individual World Cup victory of his career. Peter Prevc, the former world champion, finished third, less than a point behind the Austrian Andreas Wellinger.
Semenič, 24, was fifth in the first series with a jump of 134.5 metres, but he managed a 137.5-metre jump in the final series to leapfrog the competition.
"I'm very surprised. I did not jump well yesterday and today I just wanted to soak in the atmosphere. It was difficult in the windy conditions, but eventually it turned out perfect. You need a bit of luck with the wind, I had it," Semenič said.
Prevc landed jumps of 131 and 134 metres, breaking a year-long dry spell in the individual competition.
Coming after with the team silver at the Ski Flying World Championship a week ago, the double podium is sure to whet appetites in Slovenia considering that the Winter Olympic Games are around the corner.
However, the Slovenian team are still far from their apex in 2016, when Prevc won virtually all trophies available.
