The budget carrier Wizz Air has announced two new flights a week between London Stanstead and Ljubljana, reports the Slovenian aviation site Sierra5. The new service will start on October 30, with an Airbus A320 flying between the capitals every Tuesday and Saturday. The flights will leave London at 20:30 and arrive in Ljubljana at 22:25, while those going to the UK will take off from Ljubljana at 23:40 and arrive in London at 01:00
The route is in addition to Wizz Air’s once a week connections between London’s Luton Airport and Ljubljana, which fly each Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
London Stanstead will thus soon have two low-cost carriers servicing the Slovene capital, with easyJet being the other operator. However, as the site Ex-Yu Aviation notes with regard to Ljubljana Airport: “High refuelling prices, state taxes and other charges, which the airport has no control over, continue to act as a deterrent for low cost airlines in Ljubljana. […] The CEO of Ryanair, Michael O’Leary, previously said, “If Ljubljana Airport were to lower its taxes Ryanair would surely return to Slovenia”."
